St John’s Wort
According to classical mythology, witches traditionally celebrated the summer solstice, a day dedicated to the sun. Their symbolic plant was St John's Wort, and it was used to predict whether a person's future would be happy or not. The Christians later dedicated the same period to the plant, and it became a talisman against evil. It was hung with a cross on doors every St John's Day, and families would pick it at sunrise and keep it in the house all day for good luck.
