Jakin and Boas

These names belonged to a pair of symbolic pillars in the Kabalistic temple of Solomon. It was believed that the pillars explained all mysteries. One was black and one white, and the symbolised good and evil. They were believed to represent the world's need for two of everything, such as two feet for the equilibrium of humans, gravitation by means of two forces and two sexes needed for generation.
