Waldenses

This Christian sect existed in southern France around 1170. Their ethics were very similar to the Albigenses and their religious system operated on dualism and severe asceticism. It's believed to have originated from the bourgeois class's desire to change the clerical discipline of the Catholic Church. Its members named themselves cathari in a nod to its eastern influences.
